Our program at Whittlesea Pre-school revolves around the individual child's need. We help your child gain confidence and independence and strive to realise each child's full potential.

While at pre-school, your child will learn to be part of a group of children, with opportunities to learn and understand routines and to listen and follow instructions from other adults. Social skills will gradually develop with opportunities for sharing and taking turns.

Concentration will be enhanced through musical experiences and stories and fine motor skills will be developed through the use of puzzles, clay, books and scissors

Three Year Olds

Three-year-old pre-school is a very special year for children & their parents. For many three year olds, it is their first experience in a large group situation away from their family & the familiar home environment.

Your child will learn to be part of a group of children, with opportunities to learn & understand routines & to listen & follow instructions from other adults.

Social skills will gradually develop with opportunities for sharing, taking turns, controlling their impulses to grab & replacing these impulses with verbal requests.

The program is run by a Qualified Early Education Teacher.

4 Year Olds

The four-year-old program is relaxed & flexible, allowing young children to develop at their own pace.

Children have the opportunity to explore & learn about the world & themselves through a wide range of activities, both indoors & outdoors.

Activities are arranged throughout the year providing many wonderful “hands on” experiences relating to current interests in the program.

Parents are seen as a vital resource & are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the Pre-school.

In 2024, we are running a rotational program

The program aims to give your child a strong feeling of self-worth, obtained by building confidence in themselves & their abilities so they may go on to learn, participate, explore & enjoy their four-year-old pre-school year & live life to the fullest!

A rotational model means that we divide our enrolments into 4 small groups and each group will be allocated 3 X 5 hour sessions per week – a total of 15 hours per child.

Each session, three of the groups come together to form the kinder group for that day. Your child will always attend with the children in their group, but will also have the opportunity each week to get to know and play with the children in the other three groups.

This is a fabulous model as it helps children to build friendships with a greater number of children that they would not normally meet in a traditional style sessional program model.

The more familiar faces at kindergarten the better, as this will prepare them for the large number of new faces at school.

Rotational groupings allow the children to branch out their friendships with each group having a slightly different dynamic, this can lead to minimization of “clickiness” and social exclusion. Children also become better prepared to deal with break times at school, as they become use to the availability of different children to play with.

Children are able to explore interests in the same way as the traditional sessional program model, however may be exposed to new ideas and creative thinking through the variation in participants.  The other benefit to parents is more freedom in the selection of days, with greater combinations possible.  It also has provided us with an opportunity to have consistent starting and finishing times
